EffectsDistortion of Thoughts Medical research has repeatedly shown that nearly every person who commits suicide does so at a time when his or her thinking, judgement and instinct to survive have been impaired by stress induced illness, especially the illness called Clinical Depressive Illness. Indeed, if you are suffering from this illness, you will probably not be aware that your negative and hopeless thinking is actually due to an illness affecting your chemistry. If you are having thoughts of suicide at this time, it is very likely you are suffering from depressive illness or another emotional illness which is trying to control you. If you tell your doctor about these thoughts, and how strong they are, he or she will be able to help you with treatment, or refer you to a specialist in this area. For immediate steps to take if you are feeling suicidal go to Treatment How to Deal with these Thoughts If thoughts of suicide are overwhelming you at the moment, please remember it’s not hopeless and please go and see your doctor straight away. If your doctor is not available at this time, you can go to the emergency department of your local hospital. Alternatively, ring 12455 (Australia) and ask the operator for the telephone number of a crisis service you can ring, or the telephone number of your nearest public hospital and talk to the nursing or medical staff there about how you need help at this time. The fact is there are a huge number of effective treatments which will cure the illness that makes you believe there is no hope and no escape. I strongly encourage you to discuss how you feel with a doctor or a specialist in these areas. If you give them time, they will be able to dramatically improve how you feel, and help you to solve the problems you cannot manage by yourself at present. |
